Liblog: Milkshakes

While we were in Buffalo we went to a restaurant near our hotel and, as noted on the previous visit, the milkshakes, though very thick and resembling something unmentionable, tasted delicious so a lot of us ordered one - not just to take the mickey but also to enjoy the extremely good taste. Twelve of us ordered these lovely milkshakes and we waited for about five minutes only to be informed that the waitress had dropped them, 12 beautiful milkshakes wasted!

So, after nicknaming that waitress something unheard of to mankind, we waited about three more minutes and out she came again with our heavenly milkshakes and tried to put the tray down - yes, you guessed it, milkshakes went flying and so did the waitress trying to catch them. Twenty-four beautiful milkshakes wasted, we were on a roll! To our dismay we were then told that they had run out of milk, Even though we did enjoy seeing the waitress do her acrobatics, some of us were not so happy missing out on our delightfully thick milkshakes.

We do hope the waitress hasn't killed herself as the waitress we nicknamed Dolly Parton told her off extremely enthusiastically. We lost 24 milkshakes but gained a fun night.

Liblog: Singing at a Papal Mass in New York Yankees Stadium to 60,000

Singing for the Pope was really cool, but also scary and funny.  Funny because when we were waiting to go on this trolley of food came by and on top was a plastic bag with a piece of paper saying ' Pope Food' on it. And there were loads of priests we had to squeeze past, and they were all joking and taking photos on their mobiles.
But it was scary to walk out in front of 60,000 people - and on TV -  and to stand in the middle of the stadium and see the crowd in broad daylight – normally you can't see the audience in a theatre.  And I could hear them – with that many people cheering and clapping it's loud!

But once we were in place I couldn't see because the baseball floodlights were so bright so all I could do was sing.  And then there was no time to be scared. Afterwards we had to bash through the crowds and get to the airport still wearing our white robes 'coz we had to catch a long flight home for school the next day!

Concert of Hope Archive

In their largest and most prestigious appearance ever, Libera took part in the Papal Mass event before 60,000 people at New York City's Yankee Stadium on Sunday, April 20, 2008. The Mass was the climax of Pope Benedict XVI's first visit to the US.

Tom Cully and Josh Madine opened the proceedings as they walked onto the stage to begin the Libera song "Far Away." The other boys joined in time for the chorus as their voices rang out across one of the largest venues ever to host such an event, which was also televised live across the US and many other countries.

Later the boys sang "Sanctus" and took part in the finale of the concert as the Holy Father arrived at the stadium to begin the Mass.

Liblog: Photoshoot

We were told there was to be a photoshoot on Saturday morning.  We have lots of different choir gear and we had to bring in it in our bags, along with the other essentials we need (PSPs, gameboys, MP3 players, decks of cards and some pretend homework).
The studios were in Fulham.  We had a quick journey across London as it was early.  The studios were big and colourful.  On arrival some had to change into black hoodies, some into white.  I took my hoodies out.  They were neatly folded when they went in the bags, but had somehow got all creased.  It must’ve been the weight of the pretend homework.  Luckily there were dressers, who are people with irons, who ironed the clothes.  The photographer (a nice man) was ready and so were we.  We posed and we smiled.  And smiled.  We smiled all morning.  We were photographed standing on big blocks and smiling, then we got changed into coloured long-sleeved sweatshirts over which we wore checked shirts, and we smiled in those.  Then we stood on a big board and tried to look casual. "Look casual… And smile!"

Then… Lunch!  Now that made me smile.  Pizza!  One each!  Or nearly one each – Tom’s didn’t arrive, so we all gave him some of ours.  After lunch we got changed again, this time into our robes, so we could smile in those.  More photographs!  Then we were all photographed individually, striking poses, jumping in the air and just larking about.  And smiling while we posed and jumped and larked about.  (We are all good at larking about.  I think I might be the best there is at it.)
We got changed again and then we were all shot together sitting on a sofa and smiling, standing behind the sofa and smiling, or lying in front of the sofa and smiling, and then… Bundle!  All the Libera boys trying to fit onto one sofa!  The photographer clicked away as we all fell off.
The final shots were taken with some of us on a horse, a gym horse, that is.  We jumped on it and smiled, and fell off and smiled.  There was a ladder there, but we had become so good at falling off things that the ladder was replaced by a chair so we fell off that instead and smiled.

The shoot was finished!  We smiled goodbye and thank you, and got in the coach.  London traffic was much heavier than it had been earlier, and it took forever to get back to Norbury.  We had all had a laugh but smiling now felt weird.  In fact, it hurt to smile.  My mouth just wanted to droop down.
When I got home my mum and dad said "Cheer up, give us a smile!"
I bet the photos will look great!

Liam
